Biographical Sketch

I received a BS (1992) and MS (1993) in Computer Engineering, and a PhD (1996) in Computer Science and Engineering, all from the University of South Florida. From 1996-1998 I held a post-doctoral position at the University of California, San Diego, in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. In 1999 I joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Clemson University, where I am currently a Professor and Associate Chair.

My research focuses on mobile health (mHealth) tools. Computer vision, embedded computing, bioinformatics, image and signal processing, and deep learning form the background of my work. My group works with many types of sensors and often builds embedded systems that prototype novel health monitoring ideas. I have expertise in collecting and annotating large datasets which I make publicly available to help other researchers working on the same problems. I am currently an Associate Editor for the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics.
