Chemical Engineering Co-op Position (posted 7/21/08)

Potash Corp is the world’s largest producer of potash, the second largest ammonia producer and the third largest producer of phosphate.

Potash Corp - Augusta is the largest producer of nitrogen-based chemicals in the state of Georgia and a member of Potash Corp's multi-plant group. Including contract staff, the complex employs approximately 330 people. There are two co-op engineering positions. Students alternate on a semester basis.

Potash Corp’s coop position is a great opportunity to put in practice what you have learned in the classroom!

  • Starting Semester: Fall Semester 2008 or Spring Semester 2009
  • Majors: Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering , Chemical Engineering, and may consider Mechanical Engineering majors

Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Perform a variety of engineering calculations, i.e. piping pressure drop, pump calculations & sizing, heat exchanger performance analysis, compressor & turbine efficiency analysis.
2. Troubleshooting plant processes and equipment.
3. Consult and coordinate outside vendors for independent engineering analyses and necessary project quotes.
4. Prepare economic evaluations for assigned projects.
5. Prepare and issue project reports.
6. Prepare end-of-semester work summary presentation.

The level of complexity of assigned projects will depend on the individuals experience, capabilities and interests.

POSITION CRITERIA
(Education, Experience, Other)

1. The successful completion of at least one year in a recognized engineering curriculum, preferably chemical engineering.
2. Meet all eligibility requirements of the appropriate university.
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (both verbal & non-verbal).
4. Work a minimum of three (3) work periods & maintain G.P.A. necessary for graduation or university co-op program requirements.
5. Possess and maintain a valid drivers license.
6. Must be able to work at heights, outdoors, and around potentially hazardous chemicals.
7. Must be comfortable and physically capable of entering & working in a confined space.
8. Must be able to hear and understand audible alarms, changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communications.
10. Should be familiar with Microsoft's Office Suite.
11. Must pass a pre-employment physical exam and drug screen.
