COMPANY:
Boehme Filatex, Inc (BFI) is a world leader in the manufacturing and sales of specialty chemical products for the wet processing of textiles along with lubricants for textile machinery, fibers and yarns.  In addition to the textile industry, the company provides for the wet-end processing of leather as well as the non-woven industry.  BFI’s manufacturing site is located in Reidsville, NC and employs 60 employees.  In 2005, BFI was acquired by DyStar GmbH and is now part of DyStar L.P. located in Charlotte, NC.
DyStar is a leading provider of specialty chemicals.  The company offers the world’s most extensive range of textile dyes, specialty auxiliaries and products, primarily to the textile and fashion industries.  Besides textile dyes, DyStar has begun to offer textile auxiliaries and textile services to the textile industry segment. REPORTS/RELATIONSHIPS:
The position will report directly to the Vice President Manufacturing & Engineering, located in Reidsville, NC. The individual in this position will take over the responsibility for all manufacturing, maintenance and packaging functions for the BFI manufacturing site.  His/Her peers are the Buyer/Planner, Head of Quality Assurance, Manager Finance and Administration and Head of Development. In addition, he/she will have a close working relationship with the Head of Supply Chain Management in Charlotte, NC. A total staff of 5 direct reports (3 Production Supervisors, 1 Maintenance Supervisor and 1 Receiving Clerk) and 13 hourly employees

BASIC FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages overall manufacturing, maintenance, batch preparations and packaging while stressing safety, quality and efficiency to the highest degree.
  • Manages and develops all personnel in efficient and modern day manufacturing, maintenance and safety practices.
  • Facilitates continual improvement in production and maintenance and troubleshoots daily manufacturing problems
  • Works to reduce manufacturing costs to meet the site and corporate to remain the low cost producer
  • Initiates and develops new engineering standards and continuous improvement of operation procedures
  • Collects and organizes data for statistical analysis
  • Participates in all phases of capital and major maintenance projects, including equipment design, budgeting, procurement, construction, start up and operation
  • Operates wastewater equalization facility and works with Head of Quality Assurance in reporting wastewater discharge to appropriate authorities as well as other compliance issues
  • Approves finished product for shipment

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 6+ years of verifiable and proven management experience in the specialty chemical manufacturing, textile or related industries.
  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering required and Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing certification desired.
  • Cultural sophistication to successfully communicate with and relate to associates at DyStar L.P. in Charlotte; BFI in Reidsville; and manufacturing personnel at DyStar in Germany.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, team building and management skills are required. 
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and manufacturing operational software
  • Ability to develop subordinates in modern manufacturing and maintenance practices.
  •  Willingness to travel occasionally to Germany for training and meetings.
  • Prior experience with developing and administering operation budgets and capital projects.

ASSIMILLATION:
The individual must be able to multi-task and have the cultural flexibility to work for an international company.  The successful candidate must also be willing to travel both domestically and internationally.  The individual must be willing to reside in the Reidsville, NC region

Production (Chemical) Engineer

Job Profile: 
Chemical Engineers in our Production Engineer position provide operations support, management oversight, and technical leadership to the production unit shift operations team for all aspects of the day-to-day production operation including process management, process troubleshooting, safety, and environmental compliance.   The Production Engineer also contributes to ongoing process improvement and optimization efforts.

This position requires the knowledge of the fundamentals of chemical engineering unit operations, and the ability to apply this knowledge in a “hands on” production environment.   Good leadership and interpersonal skills are also required. 

Production Engineers work a rotating schedule that averages 42 hours per week.
 (7 days, 2 off, 7 nights, 2 off, 5 evenings, 5 off).

Application Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science, or Master of Science, in Chemical Engineering is required.
Chemical manufacturing experience (co-op, intern, or full time) is highly desirable.
Willingness to work a rotating shift schedule, weekends, and overtime is required.

Manufacturing Operations/Global Supply Chain Chemical Engineer

The individual must have vast experience in high volume, high quality, chemical manufacturing operations utilizing OSHA PSM and EPA RMP listed highly hazardous materials.

One week per quarter international travel: From Canada to Chile. Travel to Germany and France required 2 times per year.

Individual will also play a large role in setting up manufacturing operations in Southern California and Brazil in the spring of next year. This would require 2 weeks per month travel over a span of 4 to 6 months.

Spanish fluency required; Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish would be excellent.
