Charles
H. Gooding, Ph.D., P.E.
Research Interests: Chemical Process Design, Analysis, Optimization, and
Control
Dr. Gooding’s interests encompass chemical process design, analysis, optimization and control. His research and teaching activities range from analysis of microscopic transport phenomena to economic evaluation of full-scale chemical manufacturing plants. He employs process modeling and simulation techniques as well as fundamental experiments to develop and improve chemical processes. Most recently his research activities have been related to alternative energy sources. Working under Department of Energy support, he is currently conducting modeling and experimental verification studies on a chlorine scrubber that is part of the DOE mixed oxide nuclear waste conversion (MOX) process. He is also doing process simulations and scale-up experiments on chlorine reactions that constitute critical steps in several alternative thermochemical cycles for hydrogen production.
