Dr. Douglas Hirt elected as Fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE)

Douglas Hirt, Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and former Director of the Center for Advanced Engineering Fibers and Films, was elected as a Fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE).  He joins a group of only 268 members that have been selected for this prestigious honor since 1984.  To be elected Fellow of the Society, a candidate must have demonstrated outstanding achievements in the field of plastics engineering, science, and technology.  Hirt was recognized for his work on additive technologies that modify surfaces of polymeric fibers and films and, more recently, on the development of functional biomaterials.
