ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS What is the application deadline? Applications are considered as we receive them. We encourage applicants to submit applications before February 1st. Applications received after February 1st are considered based on availability. How do I apply? Admission is done through the Clemson University Graduate School web site: http://www.grad clemson.edu/Admissions.php. Admissions requirements can be found at that site. What are the minimum GRE, GPA, TOEFL scores needed? Our department does not have set minimum scores for GRE, GPA, or TOEFL. We do keep a record of average scores for students who are admitted. Currently enrolled students have an average GRE score of 1142, an average Analytical Writing score of 3.6, an average GPA of 3.32/4.00, and an average TOEFL score of 98 (Internet-based test). Will I receive financial aid? Presently, all students who are admitted in the PhD program receive financial support that includes a stipend and full tuition. The stipend in FY 2009-2010 is $24,000. Is health insurance provided? Health insurance is required for all full-time, on-campus graduate students. All full-time, on-campus students will be enrolled in the university plan unless they present evidence of alternative coverage. Students pay the health fee; it is not included in the financial aid package. In FY 2009-2010, the health fee was $356.00. The Health Fee provides for the services of the University physicians, psychologists, nurse practitioners, and health educators. Included in the medical fee is an excess accident and sickness benefit available for after-hours urgent care. The University offers a plan of accident and sickness insurance designed to help cover major medical expenses. Information on this insurance plan is sent to all students prior to the beginning of the fall semester. The health center strongly encourages students who do not have adequate insurance coverage to purchase the additional coverage.
