Clemson University will be hosting an informal miniconference in applied mathematics and related areas February 5-6, 2016. The conference is sponsored jointly by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Clemson SIAM Student Chapter, SIAM Southeast, and the Clemson Mathematical Sciences Department.
In part, the conference is intended as a "practice session" for students, to give them a comfortable forum in which to present the results of their research, while getting advice and suggestions from their peers and mentors. This kind of oral presentation is a vital part of a graduate student's career. The talks presented at this conference will be developed further for presentation at job interviews and at conferences, such as the upcoming SIAM SEAS conference.
In addition, the conference provides an opportunity for beginning researchers to gain exposure for their own work, to get an idea of what others are working on, as well as to meet and exchange ideas with others in their field of interest.
The conference will be held at Clemson University.
We are fortunate this year to have the conference supported by National Science Foundation grant DMS-1547107, the Clemson Student SIAM Chapter, and the Clemson Department of Mathematical Sciences. Invited attendees rooms will be covered and have some of their travel expenses reimbursed.
