President's Commission honors LaBerge

The President's Commission on the Status of Women at Clemson University has presented the 2001 Outstanding Woman Faculty award to Martine Laberge, professor of bioengineering. LaBerge has promoted the status of women at Clemson University by her example as an outstanding teacher, mentor, and role model for all students, and in particular, for potential women engineers. She has directly facilitated

the emergence of over 15 female engineering graduate students into the national workforce, placing them in regulatory, research and development, and professorship positions. She has also been responsible for attracting over $2.5 million in sponsored research.

LaBerge is an active leader in the Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) program, and the Society of Women Engineers. She has the unique ability to instill in her students the desire to learn and the desire to excel - the hallmark of an outstanding teacher and role model.
