Leadership Changes

Peter Barnes was appointed chair of the department of physics and astronomy effective August 15, 2001. Barnes comes to Clemson from Auburn University where he served as the Thomas and Jean Walter Professor of Physics. Prior to joining Auburn in 1985, he was with AT&T Bell Laboratories. He received his Ph.D. from Simon Fraser University and his bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Waterloo.

Luis Echegoyen was appointed chair of the department of chemistry effective January of this year. He comes to Clemson from the University of Miami. Echegoyen earned his B.S. at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras, and was graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1971. He received his Ph.D. there in 1974. He carried out postdoctoral studies at the University of Wisconsin at Madison 1974-75.

Michael Leonard has been named permanent chair of the department of industrial engineering, after having served a year as interim chair. Leonard completed his undergraduate, master's and Ph.D. from the University of Florida. This long-time Clemson faculty member brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position.
