Zumbrunnen
selected for NAE's Frontiers of Engineering
David Zumbrunnen (at right, standing), professor
of mechanical engineering, was chosen to participate in the Symposium
on Frontiers of Engineering organized by the National Academy of
Engineering (NAE). The three-day event brings together engineers
from industry, academia, and government, aged 30 to 45, who are
performing leading-edge research and technical work. Participants
are invited after a competitive nomination and selection process.
The number of participants is kept at 100 to maximize opportunities
for interaction.
"Frontiers of Engineering is a rare opportunity
for outstanding young engineers to meet one another and delve into
new topics for possible future collaboration," said William.
A. Wulf, NAE president.
"I feel privileged to be invited to participate,"
Zumbrunnen remarked. "The opportunities to explore possible
links among significant developments at the frontiers of engineering
and represent Clemson are what professors dream about." Zumbrunnen's
research group is developing new automated processes capable of
producing a variety of materials that may be used in biomedical
applications, electronic display screens, improved plastic products,
and recycling.
