Gift endows
excellence in ME program
An unrestricted
$25,000 gift to Clemson University helps ensure continued quality
in mechanical engineering. The J. Edward Chambers Endowment for
Excellence in Mechanical Engineering honors the 1950 graduate and
will provide support for the College of Engineering & Science's
mechanical engineering department. Established by Chambers' wife,
Alice Anderson Chambers, and his company, Greenville-based Thermo-Kinetics
Industries Inc., the endowment provides support for initiatives
such as research, faculty and student enrichment, and laboratory
and facility enhancement.

"As we
move toward our goal of being a top-20 public university, gifts
like this one from Alice and Thermo-Kinetics are critical and very
much appreciated," said Tom Keinath, the dean of the university's
College of Engineering and Science.
"Ed's success
for more than 50 years in the engineering, fabrication and contracting
business is directly attributed to his education received at Clemson,"
observed Alice Chambers.
