As a matter of fact - it is rocket science!

Participants in this summer's Project: WISE (Women in Science & Engineering) spent an August morning learning about the physics associated with "motorized" rocket flight (see photo).

For several years, with financial support from Duke Energy, the College of Engineering and Science has sponsored Project: WISE (Women in Science & Engineering). This one-week summer science and engineering adventure for 8th grade girls, encourages them to continue pursuing math and science-based curricula. "Exciting, hands-on mini courses help spark their interest in technical areas," states Serita Acker, the director of Project WISE. "Hopefully, by seeing practical applications of classroom knowledge in everyday life, these students will begin to consider and pursue careers in science and engineering."
