Awards and Recognition

This year's Kenelly-Voss Award went to Jacob Monroe Hicks, mathematical sciences. The University-wide award is given to the freshman who enters Clemson University with the most advanced placement credits.




Dr. Samuel B. Earle was director of the engineering department from 1911 to 1933 and dean of the School of Engineering from 1933 to 1950. The Samuel B. Earle Award is given in his honor to the most outstanding senior in engineering on the basis of scholarship and character. This year's honoree is Robert James Webster, III, electrical engineering.



 

Russell Patrick Watson, chemistry, was honored with the Outstanding Senior Award the Sciences, which is based on scholarship and character.

 

 

Kristin Louise Kelley, industrial engineering, was the recipient of the Robert W. Moorman Award. Robert W. Moorman was the son of Commandant Thomas Moorman, a graduate in civil engineering and head of the engineering mechanics department from 1958-1974. The Robert W. Moorman Award honors the most outstanding junior in engineering on the basis of scholarship and character.

 

The Outstanding Junior Award in the Sciences is given on the basis of scholarship and character. This year's honoree is Olin Thompson Mefford, IV, textile and polymer chemistry.

 


Tau Beta Pi is the national engineering honorary society. Membership is restricted to those with outstanding academic scholarship and exemplary character. The Tau Beta Pi Award recognizes the sophomore in Engineering with the highest academic record based on scholarship and number of hours of engineering courses taken. This year Tau Beta Pi chose to recognize Brian Jason Stringari, computer engineering.

 

Sunil Bector, biosystems engineering, was awarded the J. Wesley Davis Leadership Award. The award is given in memory of Dr. J. Wesley Davis, a graduate of Clemson University in electrical engineering and a former president of the Clemson University Engineering Foundation. This award is given to a senior engineering student for outstanding scholarship, leadership in a student engineering organization, and high potential for success in the engineering profession.


Each college is invited to select one student to receive the Phi Kappa Phi Certificate of Merit. The student must be a graduating senior with a GPA of 3.4 or above and have made noteworthy contributions in such areas as leadership, service, and creative endeavors to his/her department, college, and Clemson University. The chosen student from CoES was Kathryn Ellen Finnessy, biosystems engineering.


Suzanne Jane Paraiso
, mathematical sciences, was recognized with the Blue Key Academic and Leadership Award. As a result of funds generated from Tigerama, an endowment has been established to give an award to one student in each of the five colleges at the University who has distinguished themselves in academic scholarship and campus leadership.

 

The Outstanding Graduate Researcher Award is given to two graduate researchers who have been recognized by faculty in conducting exemplary research during the 2001-2002 school year. Chosen this year were Ian Alexander Gravagne, electrical engineering, and Sonia Hammache, chemical engineering.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award is given to two graduate teaching assistants who have been recognized by faculty, students, and fellow graduate teaching assistants for their skills in undergraduate teaching. Chosen this year were Nicole Hope Levi, physics and astronomy, and Japheth James Light, electrical engineering.
