Clemson's College
of Engineering and Science (CoES) presented special awards based
on merit, innovation and achievement to ten staff members at its
annual awards ceremony.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Hattie
B. Wagener Award, which is given annually to the top administrative
staff member. This year's winner was Jane Jacobi, who, as program
manager for the Center for Advanced Engineering Fibers and Films
has displayed outstanding leadership and commitment. In addition
to her staff responsibilities, Jacobi has served as a vital member
of the faculty team that has made the Center so successful. In recognition
of her efforts, she has recently been promoted to lecturer.

Winners
of the 2001 merit awards were Maria Barrett, a student services
program coordinator for the Holcombe Department of Electrical and
Computer Engineering (ECE); Janice Brucke, an administrative assistant
for mathematical sciences; and Kay Kay, a human resource specialist
for administrative and research support.
Innovation award winners included Linda Cocke, a student services
specialist for mechanical engineering; Gwen Hamilton, an information
resource consultant for ECE; and Joe Pinion, a lab technologist
who also works in electrical and computer engineering.
Achievement award winners were Barbara Bass, a fiscal analyst for
mathematical sciences; Lib Crockett, a student services program
coordinator for general engineering; and Trina Keaton, an administrative
assistant in physics and astronomy.
"It's no secret that we wouldn't get very far without our classified
staff," said Thomas Keinath, dean of the College of Engineering
and Science. "Their behind-the-scenes support makes it possible
for our faculty and students to excel in the classrooms and laboratories."
