Meeting
with the Laureates
Clemson University
graduate student, Jennie Atkins (left, above, or right) has been
selected by the Department of Energy (DOE) as one of 36 outstanding
research participants to attend the 52nd convention of Nobel Laureates
in Lindau, Germany, July 1-5. Atkins is currently working on the
characterization of novel ionomer and carbon materials for use in
polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells. She is a founding
member of Women in Analytical Chemistry, a community service organization
for graduate chemistry students at Clemson.

Continuing
a tradition established in 1951 by Swedish patron, Count Linnart
Bernadotte, Nobel Laureates in chemistry, physics or physiology
and medicine convene annually in Lindau, to have open and informal
meetings with more than 200 students and young researchers from
around the world. The meetings rotate by discipline each year --
this year's focus is chemistry. For three days, the Laureates will
lecture and meet with the participants in informal roundtable sessions.
