Snelsire honored

Robert Snelsire, professor emeritus, electrical and computer engineering, has received the 2002 Martin Luther King Jr. Award for Excellence In Service. Since 1974, he has worked to increase the diversity of Clemson University's College of Engineering and Science. He founded the Clemson Career Workshop, which for more than 10 years attracted the brightest minority students in the state. In 1987, he was instrumental in founding the Programs for Educational Enrichment and Retention (PEER) Office, an award-winning program supporting minority students in the College. He continues to serve as the faculty liaison for PEER.

He was also part of the team that won the South Carolina Alliance for Minority Participation (SCAMP) grant for the state - a contract which has brought millions of dollars to South Carolina to support minority students in technical majors. He serves currently as the SCAMP principal investigator for Clemson.
