Alumni in the spotlight

Tau Beta Pi recognizes Reneau
Daniel Reneau (Ph.D. CHE ’66), president of Louisiana Tech University and a chemical engineering graduate of Clemson, has been recognized by Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Honor Society, with its Distinguished Alumni award.

A chemical engineer whose research focused on applying engineering principles to living systems, Reneau contributed significantly to the understanding of cerebral palsy and its causes. He was also interested in how technology could be used to help people with disabilities overcome barriers.


His contributions to both basic research, and the application of technology, brought international recognition to Louisiana Tech. He was named a fellow of the Rehabilitation Engineering Society of North America in 1989, a fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineers in 2001, and winner of the Newel Perry award from the National Federation of the Blind in 2002. He has served as president of Louisiana Tech University since 1987.

Love named program chair

Management expert and Clemson engineering graduate, Sally Love (B.S. EE ’81) was selected as the Program Chair for McGraw Hill Construction’s Engineering News Report’s (ENR) annual Top 1,000 Contractors Leadership Forum and its Construction Owners Summit. ENR is the premier publication in construction and engineering news and trends.

A native of Rock Hill, S.C., Love is director of Greenville-based Paragon Worldwide, an international services firm that specializes in optimizing company operations and capital projects. She is a member of the executive advisory board for Clemson’s College of Business and Behavioral Science.

NCEES Award goes to Cottingham

J. Richard Cottingham, P.E., P.L.S, (B.S. CE ’66) has been recognized by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) with the Distinguished Service Award. He has been active in NCEES at the zone and national level. The Council elected Cottingham to serve as NCEES Treasurer in 1996, and confirmed him as NCEES President in 2000. The National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying develops licensing examinations for the engineering and land surveying professions.
