Alumni Providing Guidance
The 3rd Annual RISE Alumni Panel was held this fall. RISE, Residence in Science and Engineering, is a living learning community comprised of engineering and science freshmen living together and taking classes together. Twelve engineering and science alums came back to Clemson to talk with 65 RISE students about what a day in the life of an engineer and scientist is like. Students learned about career opportunities, received advice on internship and co-ops, and picked up tips on how to survive the rigorous curriculum.
During the fall semester great emphasis is placed on helping General Engineering students decide which engineering degree to pursue. Students go on tours of engineering and science departments and hear from faculty about what each major is all about. The RISE Alumni Panel gives students another opportunity to explore different career paths. This event is a collaborative effort between the General Engineering Department, University Housing, and the Michelin Career Center.
Other RISE activities that help students learn more about engineering and science careers include field trips, and guest speakers.
