Students Use Water Balloons as Educational Tools
Each semester, the College of Engineering and Science general engineering classes complete team-based design projects. These exercises give students hands-on experiences in the lab and helps them build their teamworking skills.
The goal of this project was to create a device to launch a water balloon over a six-foot barrier to hit the target - their laboratory professor - who was seated a distance of 15 - 30 feet from the device. The students were told immediately before testing the distance, and had less than two minutes to adjust their device. Over 800 students participated in this project.
Instructors included Professors Beth Stephan, Lisa Benson, David Bowman, Steve Brandon, John DesJardin, William Park, and Ben Sill.
