Alumni in the spotlight
CoES Alumni Fellows
Two College of Engineering and Science alums have been
named Clemson University Alumni Fellows. This program recognizes
distinguished alumni and fosters stronger connections to
the university by inviting these honorees to serve as mentors,
counselors and advisors for students and faculty.
John Caldwell Walker, a native
of Whitmire, SC, earned a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering
in 1964 from Clemson. While a student, he was a member of
the Tiger Band, Student Senate, and worked at radio station
WSBF. Walker has remained an active part of Clemson by serving
on the Alumni National Council and the Industrial Engineering
Advisory Board. He is an IPTAY representative for Darlington
County and a charter member of the Presidents’ Club.
Since graduating from Clemson, he has been employed by
Sonoco Products Company, a global packaging company, with
corporate headquarters in Hartsville, South Carolina. He
currently serves as Director of Compensation with responsibility
for all of Sonoco’s executive and management compensation
programs in 32 countries.
Rem Stokes, a native of Greenville,
SC, holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson,
and an M.S. in Educational Psychology from Butler University.
During his time here at Clemson, he earned the highest grade
point ratio in his mechanical engineering class.
He has held technical and senior management positions at
Bell Telephone Laboratories, AT&T, and Motorola. Stokes
is the author of Systematic Approach to
Problem Solving, and is currently writing a second book entitled:
Cultivating Generosity: Giving What’s Right, Not What’s
Left.
He received the Clemson University Alumni Service Award
in 1971, and is the Chairman of the Campaign for the Mechanical
Engineering Undergraduate Education Endowment.
