Leadership changes

The College has made several departmental changes that will further the goal of preparing students to apply scientific and engineering principles creatively and responsibly.

Civil engineering is now under the direction of Nadim M. Aziz, who was appointed chair on June 27. Aziz completed his undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Mississippi, receiving his Ph.D. in Engineering Science in 1984. His professional interests include hydrologic modeling, flood hazards, erosion and sediment transport, storm water management, and contaminant transport.

Imtiaz Haque has been named permanent chair of the department of mechanical engineering, after having served one year in an interim capacity. Haque received his B.SC., in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology (Pakistan), in 1972. He then earned his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson in 1977, and completed his Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics here in1982. His research interests include: dynamics and vibrations of mechanical systems; modeling and simulation of vehicle dynamics; multi-body systems, mechanisms and machines.

Robert Taylor was appointed chair of mathematical sciences effective January 1, 2003. Taylor earned his B.S., in Statistics and Mathematics at the University of Tennessee in 1966. He then entered graduate school at Florida State, and earned his M.S. and Ph.D.in Statistics. His professional interests include laws of large numbers, estimation of probability density functions, stochastic convergence and validity of bootstrap estimators.

Grants editor now on board

Jenny Bourne has joined the Dean’s staff as an editor whose primary responsibility is to assist faculty with their research proposals. Her activities, including writing, editing, and research, increase the likelihood of funding by helping faculty present proposals that specifically address grantors' requirements. Bourne holds an M.A. in Professional Communication from Clemson and an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Oklahoma.

Earnest is published by the College of Engineering and Science at Clemson University for the alumni and friends of the College. Subscriptions are free upon request.
