The
chemistry department, in conjunction with the Intersociety
Polymer Education Council (IPEC), is sponsoring a free polymer
workshop for K-6 teachers this summer. Scheduled for July
20 - 23, the workshop will take place in the Hunter Laboratories
on the campus of Clemson University. Topics will include
new ways to teach and experiment with states of matter and
physical and chemical properties. Seminars will be led by
award- winning teacher and IPEC Polymer Ambassador, Gina
Watkiss!
Basic “matter” concepts
will relate “ across the curriculum.” Teachers
will learn how to use “polymer-based” activities
and experiments, not only in science, but also with math,
social studies and language arts.
Take-home
supplies include: slimy potions, golf ball samples, and creepy
things for Harry Potter fans! Prepare to have great fun,
while learning easy ways to motivate your students through
polymer chemistry and materials science!
Sponsors
include the National Science Foundation (NSF), IPEC, the
Dunlop Slazenger Group, AOP Hub, the South Carolina Statewide
Systemic Initiative, the Center for Advanced Engineering
Fibers and Films, and the Center for Optical Materials Science
and Engineering Technologies.
