Alumni in the Spotlight
From the Dean
Spring
semester, 2004, has been a memorable one for me because the college
realized several important accomplishments over the course of the
term. The news concerning our rankings was very encouraging. We
have five disciplines in the Top 50. That’s an achievement,
to be sure - one that inspires us to move forward with our continuing
efforts to support President’s Barker’s goal of a Top
20 Clemson.
Having
four Goldwater Scholars named is also exciting news. This feat places
us in pretty impressive company. This year, the University of Virginia,
Princeton, Harvard and Stanford each had four recipients. Duke,
Cal Tech, Northwestern and Georgia, all had only three.
I
am particularly proud that nominees from the College of Engineering
and Science swept the four Women’s Commission Awards. This
accomplishment is particularly remarkable when one considers that
categories for these awards include academic faculty, classified
staff, graduate student and undergraduate student, and that nominations
come from all across the university.
This
summer is proving to be every bit as eventful as the spring. As
Earnest goes to press, we are completing work on two new facilities
– the Advanced Materials Research Laboratory, and McAdams
Hall, which will become home to the Computer Science Department.
All
of these achievements and accomplishments are the results of the
untiring efforts of the college’s students, faculty and staff.
I offer my sincerest gratitude for their hard work and diligence.
