CoES gains new corporate partner

Progress Energy Foundation has become a new partner in support of diversity recruitment initiatives within the College of Engineering & Science (CoES). Their $40,000 grant furthers the efforts of the Programs for Educational Enrichment and Retention (PEER) and Women in Science & Engineering (WISE) to recruit and retain minority and female students in engineering and science majors.

Specifically, the PEER and WISE offices will utilize this funding to sponsor a series of on-campus weekend recruitment programs for high school seniors, known as Sneak Preview for minority students and WISE Choice for female students. Participation in these programs will motivate more under-represented students to select technical majors at Clemson, and ultimately, help increase the pool of minority and female engineers and scientists in the workforce.

The Progress Energy Foundation supports programs and activities that benefit the customers and employees of Progress Energy's member companies, including Carolina Power & Light, Florida Power and North Carolina Natural Gas. The Foundation was formed to distribute philanthropic funds in the company's North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida service areas. Grants are made primarily in the areas of education, economic development and the environment.
