ENGINEERING PROGRAMS GAIN NATIONAL RANKINGS
Five
programs in the College of Engineering and Science at Clemson University
are among the nation’s 50 best, according to the 2005 edition
of U.S. News & World Report’s guidebook of graduate programs.
Each
program was ranked against similar programs at all national doctoral
granting universities, public or private. Clemson’s environmental
science program is ranked 19th among the 50 best environmental science
programs in the nation. Industrial engineering earned a spot at
number 30 in its category. The biomedical / bioengineering program
is ranked at 37, materials science at 47 and civil engineering at
50. These numbers improve considerably if one eliminates private
universities and focuses the comparison to include only other public
universities.
“Having
our programs gain recognition in the U.S. News & World Report
graduate school rankings solidifies our belief in, and commitment
to, offering challenging educational programs and research, devoted
to excellence, for the students, faculty and the community at local
and national levels,” said Tom Keinath, dean of the College
of Engineering and Science.
Clemson’s
overall engineering school was ranked 71st among the top 100 engineering
colleges in the country. The School of Education is ranked at number
73, and the School of Nursing is 58th among the top 100 nursing
schools. “The national recognition gained in the rankings
supports Clemson’s commitment to academic excellence and its
focus on key emphasis areas and proves we are moving in the right
direction,” said Bonnie Holaday, dean of Clemson’s graduate
school
