RISE provides leg-up to engineering and
science freshmen
The College of Engineering and Science’s RISE (Residential Community
in Science and Engineering) Program is a unique first-year approach
designed to enhance freshmen learning and student success.
“RISE is a ‘Living Learning Community’ (LLC),”
explains RISE coordinator, Susan Smith. “LLCs are appearing
on campuses all across the United States because national research
shows that students who participate in LLCs perform at a higher success
rate than non-LLC participants. That means better retention rates,
and higher student satisfaction.”
This program combines the residential and academic aspects of college
life which enriches students’ academic experience and eases
their transition into college by providing a support system of individuals
with similar interests.
Peer Advisors (PAs), who are upperclassmen majoring in science and
engineering, live in the residence halls and work with Residential
Assistants (RAs) to provide mentoring services.
RISE is a collaborative effort between the CoES, the housing department,
and WISE (Women in Science and Engineering). To learn more about
the RISE program, check out the homepage at www.ces.clemson.edu/esllc/.
