Clemson begins recruiting students for
new automotive engineering graduate program
Clemson University’s International Center for Automotive
Research (CU-ICAR) has begun recruiting students for its unique
academic program, with the accreditation process complete for both
master’s and doctoral programs in automotive engineering.
Construction is under way on the building that will house the program.
Clemson is enrolling students into the doctoral program and next
spring will begin accepting students interested in pursuing a master’s
degree. Curricula for both programs, which are offered through the
mechanical engineering department, have been approved by the South
Carolina Commission on Higher Education and the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools.
“The thrust of both degree programs is the integration of
technical areas in design and development, manufacturing and electronics,
with leadership, innovation management, and policy/regulation in
a global economy,” said Thomas R. Kurfess, the BMW Endowed
Chair in Manufacturing Integration who directs both the graduate
program and the Campbell Graduate Engineering Center.
Students must have two years of work experience and a bachelor’s
degree in engineering. They will be expected to gain proficiency
in a foreign language and spend a minimum of six months overseas
as part of an international internship in the automotive sector.
