Concrete canoe and steal bridge teams headed for nationals

Recently, Clemson’s American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) Student Chapter competed at the Carolinas Conference at the Citadel. A total of 47 students participated. All represented themselves, the department, and the university well. There were a total of nine schools in attendance and they competed in nine events. Clemson placed in the top three positions in six of the events.

The Tigers placed first in the Concrete Canoe, and the T-Shirt competitions, second in the Steel Bridge and the Mystery Competition and third in the Balsawood Bridge and the Technical Paper competitions.

As a result of outstanding results in all of the events, the Clemson University ASCE Student Chapter earned the First Place Trophy as the Overall Winner of the Carolinas Conference for 2006. With their first and second place finishes in the Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge competitions, respectively, both teams will again be participating in the national competitions. The Concrete Canoe nationals will be at Oklahoma State in Stillwater, OK in June and the Steel Bridge nationals will be in May at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT.
