WEA establishes fellowship for Dr. Rich
The Water Environment Association of South Carolina recognized Dr. Linville G. Rich at its annual meeting in Myrtle Beach by announcing the establishment of an endowed fellowship in his honor.

The WEASC and the College of Engineering & Science set a goal to raise $100,000 for the Linville G. Rich Endowment Fellowship, which will be housed in the School of the Environment.
“The campaign has gotten off to a great start and we feel confident we will reach our goal,” said WEASC Executive Director Cynthia Morgan. “Dr. Rich is revered by so many people in the environmental field. His name is still mentioned at national meetings.”
Rich came to Clemson in 1960 from the Illinois Institute of Technology to head the Civil Engineering Department. But when Dean Walter Lowry died a year later, Rich was named Dean of the College.
Under his leadership environmental engineering flourished. Environmental Systems Engineering began classes in 1963, became its own department in 1968 and by 1971 was nationally known for its work.
If you would like to contribute to the Rich Endowed Fellowship, fill out the CoES pledge form and mail it in the return envelope provided in this issue of Earnest. Pledge payments can be spread over a five-year period.
All donors who give at the $1,000 level will have their names inscribed on a plaque honoring Rich. The plaque will hang in the School of the Environment. Those who make gifts at the $5,000 level will be recognized at the leadership level on the plaque.
