Programs Available
Features of The RISE Program include:
Peer Advisors (PAs) are upperclassmen engineering and science students
who live in the residence halls and serve as facilitators to
help students with the transition from high school to college. PAs answer
students'
questions about academic and personal issues, assist students in discovering
academic resources and refer students to other individuals or offices
on campus when appropriate.
Residence Hall Tutors (RHTs) provide in-hall tutoring every
Monday through Thursday from 6:00pm - 10:00pm.
Structured in-hall study groups will be formed.
A professional academic advisor will hold
office hours in the residence halls each week.
Opportunities to interact with faculty from the College of Engineering
on a more personal and informal basis.
A weekly E-Newsletter will be sent out to inform students of campus activities, program activities, and reminders of deadlines and other important information.
Orientation Activities includes welcome activities such as a welcome BBQ, team building activities, and icebreakers so students can get to know one another.
A number of seminars are offered throughout the academic year. Examples of seminars might include: Learning How to Study, Time Management, Stress Management, How to Communicate with Professors, etc. All seminars are developed with the intent of helping students learn about their role as a college student and develop strategies to be a successful within that role.
Additional Opportunities may include:
Students participating in the living learning
community will be clustered and preregistered into their core courses.
Mentoring opportunities with other members of the College of Engineering.
Some faculty who teach clustered courses will hold some office hours in the residence halls.
