In addition to seeking new funding sources, the CHORD project is also seeking donations of equipment, both organ-specific and general woodshop tools since we intend to eventually manufacture our own pipes and windchests.
Funding can be specifically targeted or unrestricted. A proposal will gladly be provided to any individual or organization interested in this project. Primary needs for funding are:
Purchase of general supplies, replacement parts, parts for enhancement of the instrument, tools, lumber, etc.
Stipends for undergraduate or graduate students, either for research here at Clemson, or to subsidize internships at companies involved in organ construction, repair, and/or maintenance.
Organ related equipment:
High-fidelity amplifiers, preferably 40 Watt. Response needs to be essentially flat from 16 Hz to 20 KHz, although we could use a few with a more restricted range.
Speaker cabinets
Loudspeakers (drivers, particularly 12" - 15" woofers, but all sizes are useful)
Pipes in workable or restorable condition. If there are at least 32 consecutive pipes starting at some reasonable pitch (C, E, or G, for example) we are interested. We are particularly seeking metal pipes, whether Flues or Reeds, since manufacture of these will probably remain beyond our capability for the foreseeable future.
Windchests, reservoirs, blowers, etc. in workable or restorable condition.
Components for windchests: direct electric or direct electro-pneumatic valves in particular.
Modern organ electronics: MIDI interface, sampled voices, digitally synthesized voices, etc.
Electronic components. Please contact the faculty sponsor (email link below) for a list of needed devices.
Shop equipment and material: (Strongly prefer integral dust collection ports on all large shop tools.)
Dust collection system and components
Table Saw
Planer (at least 12", preferably larger)
Jointer
Shaper or router table and bits
Bandsaw
Drill Press
Sharpening station (knife grinder) for maintaining cutting tools.
Various smaller tools, both electric and hand-powered.
Knot-free, uniform grain lumber. A variety of species is acceptable.
Anyone or any organization interested in making a tax-deductible contribution to the project may contact the faculty sponsor, Dr. William Park, either via email (parkw@ces.clemson.edu), phone (864-656-1032), or snail-mail (William Park, General Engineering, 104 Holtzendorff Hall, Clemson University, Clemson, SC 29634-0902.
