Research

My research interests fall into the broad category of Environmental Geomechanics. This includes the fields of Hydrogeology, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Structural Geology, Applied Mechanics, and probably some other fields. The underlying theme behind most of my projects is the combination of theoretical analyses with field studies. I feel strongly that combining those two elements provide the means to understand a wide range of processes.

Some topics that I work on are

Most of my recent research has been done in collaboration with graduate students at Clemson. Their research is described on a page called Student Projects.

I worked on the Henry Mountains in the 1980s and I recently converted some geologic maps prepared in that era to digital form.

I am involved with coordinating experiments at the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Lab (DUSEL).
