Oral and Poster presenters (first author only) are entitled to a reduced registration fee!

Abstracts are due March 2 by 7 pm!

Please indicate your choice of poster or oral presentation when you send in your abstract.

The goal of the symposium is to encourage submissions that attempt to bridge the gap between research and industry. Towards this, we encourage presentations in a wide array of formats, from case studies of previous or ongoing projects given by working professionals to applied and theoretical research results given by academicians.

Abstract Submission Guidelines
The deadline for submission of the standard abstract (format below) is March 1 . Plan on giving an 18 minute talk, with 2 minutes for questions. The exact length of your presentation will depend upon the number of abstracts submitted. Submitting early is encouraged. The speaker schedule will be posted on or about March 3. Please submit your abstract as an email attachment to brameS@clemson.edu. The desired file format is MS Office 2003/2007. If that is not available, send me what you have and I will try to open it.

Note to Presenters: We require that you submit a copy of your presentation for Web posting three days before the Symposium (March 30). This will be posted in PDF format. If you submit a Powerpoint file, it will be converted to PDF before posting. If you have a concern, please contact Scott.

Symposium Abstract Format
The main points to follow are:

(1) Title: not capitalized and in bold,
(2) Speakers have last name first and bold
(3) the first paragraph is not indented, but subsequent ones are
(4) the font is 12 point or less,
(5) the total number of words around 500. This length is more of a guide - don't worry about exceeding this.
(6) Extended abstracts are also welcome. Please limit the text to 3000 words and 2 figures.

Continuous Sand-Iron Reaction Wall for Groundwater Remediation

Clark, Lisa M., lisa.clark@rmtinc.com, RMT, Inc., Greenville, SC ; and Elizabeth Rowan, beth.rowan@rmtinc.com, RMT, Inc., Nashville, TN

In 1992, a pre-acquisition audit of a former industrial property in South Carolina identified a number of environmental risks which led to the discovery of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in soil and groundwater at the site. Closure activities were initiated in potential source areas, and hydrogeologic investigations were conducted to evaluate aquifer conditions and constituent concentrations in groundwater.
The site is located in the Coastal Plain physiographic province of South Carolina. Three aquifers -- a water table aquifer, an intermediate aquifer, and a deep aquifer - underlie the site. The upper two aquifers are impacted by chlorinated hydrocarbons. The thin upper (water table) aquifer is comprised primarily of silty to sandy fill material.
