The Department of Industrial Engineering serves the State of South Carolina and the Nation through teaching, research and outreach in the discipline of industrial engineering. A particular focus for industrial engineering at Clemson University is to be a nationally top-ranked industrial engineering department emphasizing the education, research, discovery and application of knowledge in the following information technology driven emphasis areas:

Production and Service Systems (P S S)

A major research and teaching area for the Department of Industrial Engineering is in Production and Service Systems, focusing on applications of operations research. Related coursework offered by the department at undergraduate and graduate levels includes fundamentals of operations research, production planning and control, supply chain design, quality and reliability, and facility planning and design. Because we recognize the impact of information technology on the practice of industrial engineering, we also offer coursework in information systems focused on industrial engineering applications.

Research activities by faculty associated with this area include quality engineering, supported by the resources of the Advanced Quality Engineering Laboratory, and mathematical modeling and computational optimization, supported by the resources of the Supply Chain Engineering and Optimization Laboratory.
