1. Dr. Lin Ma has been
awarded a National Science Foundation
CAREER grant to fund his project titled, "CAREER: Resolving
Turbulence-Chemistry Interaction Using Novel Laser Diagnostics."
This project focuses on the study of turbulence-chemistry interactions
using advanced laser imaging techniques. The figures below show
an example experimental setup and a set of results. More detalis

2. Dr. Lin Ma receives
two grants from the US Air Force SBIR program to research and develop Hyperspectral Tomography Sensors.
In this research, we creatively use hyperspectral absorption
spectroscopy to significantly reduce the number of projections required
for satisfactory tomographic imaging. Therefore, the
implementation difficulty can be drastically reduced and performance
improved. The figure below illustrates the concept. The
technique, named hyperspectral tomography, uses advanced lasers to scan
absorption spectra at rapid rate at multiple locations. Novel
inversion algorithms then retrieve critical flow information (e.g.,
temperature, and concentration of chemical species) from the measured
spectra with both spatial and temporal resolution.
