Department Goals for Undergraduate Education

    The department recognizes its responsibility as part of a land-grant institution to serve the state and nation by providing employers with graduates that will be creative and productive in both individual and team engineering work, effective in oral and written communications and aware of the impact of their professional activities on society. Despite the importance of the specific technical content in their undergraduate studies, the rapid pace of development of science and technology requires that graduates are able to continue learning throughout their careers. This need is addressed by focusing on fundamental engineering principles and by making students aware of the temporal nature of current technology. Finally, for those students who will choose to seek advanced engineering or other professional degrees, the department provides them the opportunity to obtain an undergraduate education that will help them succeed at an advanced level.
