Assistantships and Post-Doctoral Positions

Undergraduate Student Laboratory Assistants

Undergraduate students can participate in research either through paid hourly work or by enrollment in research courses such as ME 415 or ME H415.  Interested students should contact Prof. Zumbrunnen.

Research Assistantships (Master's and Doctoral Graduate Students):

Research assistantships are available each year for the fall semester beginning in August, and the spring semester beginning in January. Research areas focus on polymer processing, polymer blends and composites, nanocomposites, chaotic advection, chaotic mixing, as well as the application of the thermal/fluid sciences to manufacturing and materials processing.  Both computational and experimental investigations are pursued, often in an interdisciplinary work environment. Research assistants receive a bi-weekly stipend and have reduced or no tuition expenses. Daily activities focus on course work and research to achieve degree objectives. Nominally, master's degree studies are completed in about 21 months and doctoral studies are completed within 3 to 5 years.
Applications for graduate study can be completed on-line by visiting the Graduate School's home page. On-line applications or applications via postal service in response to opportunities described in this Web site should indicate an interest in the Laboratory for Advanced Plastic Materials & Technology of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and ask that applications be forwarded to Prof. D. A. Zumbrunnen for review.
