March 11, 2009 - Graduate student Matthew Ray traveled to the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC to give a talk entitled “Energy Dissipation in Hyperthermal Ion-Surface Interactions”.

Oct. 2008-Feb. 2009 - Graduate student Russell Lake worked as a guest researcher at National Institute of Standards and Technology using the Electron Beam Ion Trap (EBIT) for highly-charged ion-surface impact measurements.
Nov. 15-21, 2008 - Graduate student Russell Lake attended the SC08 International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis as part of the South Carolina Computing Group Consortium. Russell presented a poster entitled "Modeling ion trajectories and electron dynamics with SAFARI, indep and 1/N simulations optimized for the Palmetto High Performance Cluster".
Oct. 19-24, 2008 - Graduate student Russell Lake attended the American Vacuum Society's 55th International Symposium and Exhibition. Russell presented a poster entitled "A Compact Deposition Chamber Design for Low Temperature Growth of Ultrathin Crystalline Films on Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor Devices".
Sept. 21-26, 2008 - Graduate student Matt Ray and Dr. Sosolik attended the 17th International Workshop on Inelastic Ion Surface Collisions (IISC-17) in Porquerolles, France. Matt gave a talk entitled "Hyperthermal energy ion scattering from Ag(001)".
June 24 - July 4, 2008 - Graduate student Russell Lake was chosen to participate in the 2008 Lindau Nobel Laureates Meeting. His trip was sponsored by the Oak Ridge Associated Universities. As part of this trip, Russell also did some collaborative work in the laboratory of Prof. Ib Chorkendorff at the Center for Individual Nanoparticle Functionality.
June 9 - July 18, 2008 - High school student Chris Raines joined the SINS group as part of the Summer Program for Research Interns.
May 1, 2008 - Dr. Sosolik and Dr. Harrell (ECE) received funding through the NASA-EPSCoR South Carolina Space Grant Consortium for their proposal "Ionization-on-a-Chip for Miniaturized Mass Spectrometry".
March 10-14 - 2008 Graduate students Matt Ray and Russell Lake attended the 2008 American Physical Society March Meeting in New Orleans, LA.
Nov. 8-10, 2007 - Graduate students Matt Ray and Russell Lake attended the 74th Annual Meeting of the Southeastern Section of the American Physical Society.
June 24-27, 2007 - Graduate student Matthew Ray traveled to Essen-Heidhausen, Germany to attended the SFB 616 Summer School on Energy Dissipation at Surfaces.
April 25, 2007 - Summer students Adam Dean and Niru Maheswaranathan presented their project results in Washington, D.C. at the Council for Undergraduate Research 2007 Posters on the Hill event. As part of this event, they visited with members of the South Carolina Congressional delegation to lobby for continued federal funding of college and high school programs like the National Science Foundation's Research Experiences for Undergraduates (NSF-REU) and South Carolina's Summer Program for Research Interns (SPRI).
April 19, 2007 - SINs Group received an Honorable Mention in the 2007 Science As Art competition.
Feb. 20, 2007 - Dr. Sosolik and Dr. Harrell (ECE) are awarded $152,000 through the Clemson University Research Investment Fund Program for their proposal "Instrumentation for Characterization of the Electronic Properties of Nanoscale Materials and Devices".
Aug. 17, 2006 - Dr. Sosolik, in collaboration with Dr. Jalili (ME), Dr. Vertegel (BioE), Dr. Huang (ME), and Dr. Luo (MS&E), are awarded $280,300 as part of the NSF Major Research Instrumentation program for their proposal "Acquisition of A Microsystem Analyzer for Integrated Research and Education in Dynamic Analysis, Surface Topography, and Characterization of Active Microstructures".
May 1, 2006 - Dr. Sosolik and Dr. Harrell (ECE) are awarded $30,000 through the NASA-EPSCoR South Carolina Space Grant Consortium for their proposal "Chemicurrent-Based Sensing: A Compact, Single-Impact Based Method for the Detection of Energetic Gas Species".
January 6, 2006 - Dr. Sosolik received an NSF CAREER award for his proposal "Energy and Charge Transfer Dynamics in Hyperthermal Energy Ion-Surface Impacts".
April 19, 2005 - Summer students Russell Lake and Stephen Wagemann presented their research in Washington, D.C. at the Council for Undergraduate Research 2005 Posters on the Hill event. Their poster is entitled"Probing Doped Single-Walled Nanotubes at the Atomic Level".
June 14, 2004 - Dr. Sosolik received a Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award through Oak Ridge Associated Universities.
