Level 3 Certification
Course
Description:
The participants for this course must be certified
at ART, Level 1, and Level 2S. The course is held in a classroom
setting, with no laboratory sessions. The class is divided up
into several sub-groups to work on troubleshooting various types
of potential problems. Some of the subject matter for trouble
shooting includes aggregates, asphalt plant operation, asphalt
mix design, compaction equipment, and lay-down operations. Several
experienced industry, academia, and DOT experts will be present
to share their knowledge of asphalt related topics. The participants
of this class must take a written final exam with a passing grade
of 85% or higher. |
The HMA Quality Manager will
be readily available to monitor mixture production, placement
and testing on each project. This individual will have been
certified in all other levels and can provide insight to problems
or conditions that arise during production and/or mix design.
This person will be the Department’s primary contact
should problems develop during a project. The HMA Quality
Manager should at all times be familiar with the current test
results and any trends in the test data.

The cost of this
class will be $650.00 per person. This will cover
four lunches, SC DOT forms, testing procedures,
and manuals. |

Each class will have
a maximum of sixteen (16) students. |
Attendance:
|
A candidate's absence
from any class session may disqualify that person
from being eligible to take the Final Exam. |
Lodging:

A block of rooms
is being held at the Comfort
Inn for this course. To ensure your group-rate
registration, be sure to specify "Asphalt
Course" and the "date" of your
arrival when you register. The telephone number
for the Comfort Inn is 864-653-3600. The cost
is $70.00 (single or double) plus tax. South Carolina
state employees are tax exempt. A complimentary
continental breakfast included in this cost.

If you answer "yes" to Question #2
on this form, your certification will be subject
to approval by the SCDOT Technician Certification
