Laptop Mandate
At its September 21, 2001 meeting the Board of Trustees of Clemson University approved a requirement that freshmen and sophomores in the College of Engineering and Science, and freshmen in the College of Business and Behavioral Science, possess a laptop computer meeting University specifications beginning in the fall 2002 semester. The requirement will extend each year to the next higher class. This action also authorizes other Colleges at
Clemson to add a laptop requirement in subsequent years. Based on this, the university calculations for determining maximum financial aid for affected students will be adjusted to reflect the computer mandate.
Students benefit from
the any place, any time availability of their laptop computer. They use
it in their dorm rooms, at home, and at many wireless linked areas of
campus such as the Library and the Student Center. Those who purchase
Clemson's recommended "project laptop" will have on-campus hardware
and software support of a high quality laptop. Each year, the project
laptop will be announced in late spring - incoming students are encouraged
to wait until summer to buy a machine to bring to campus in the fall.
