Spyware

Spyware software can cause problems for WebCT. Spyware is a term used to refer to software that is installed without your knowledge to track your internet sage habits for various reasons, such as advertising. The symptoms reported include problems such as being prompted for a User Name and password after entering the information once. Users have also reported being re-directed to an Ask Jeeves search site when trying to access WebCT. The majority of the systems with problems are running the Windows XP operating system and Internet Explorer 6. Please see the following site for for instructions on removing Spyware.

Logout

Web browsers cache passwords during a WebCT session. The safest way to logout is to close the browser window. If you have more than one browser window open you must close them all. Internet Explorer asks you if you want it to remember your password. Just say NO! When you logout from a workstation in a campus lab, all running applications are closed so you are safe. If you fail to logout, then you leave the computer as an open winbdow to all your university records. Students in dorm rooms and faculty in their offices often do not logout until the end of the day. Beware!
