Fall 2003 Report by Bill Moss

History

WebCT was selected in May 1998 by the College of Engineering and Science (CES) Laptop Program Committee and the SUCCEED Technology Based Curriculum Development (TBCD) Committee as the application to provide Web-based instructional support for the Laptop Program. The Laptop Program welcomes the use of WebCT by other interested faculty inside and outside the College. For the 2002-2003 academic year, our friends from Lander University will be using our WebCT server. Bill Moss and Corey Ferrier share the systems administration duties, while Bill Moss handles the administrative and training duties.

The CES WebCT servers will cease operation at 1:00 PM, August 8, 2003. Beginning with the fall 2003 semester, DCIT will support a one year comparison of Blackboard, WebCT, and MyCLE. Contact ETS at ETS-L@clemson.edu for more details.

Learning Communities

WebCT.com is a higher education web site that offers teaching and learning resources for students and instructors within discipline-specific communities, across course and institutional boundaries. Each community has a library, a newsletter, and discussion forums.

Outreach

As of July 2003, WebCT has been licensed by 29 universities, colleges, technical colleges, and school districts in South Carolina. WebCT courses constructed at Clemson for use at Greenville Technical College and at Tri-County Technical College can easily be moved to the WebCT servers at those institutions. For the 2002-2003 academic year, Lander University used our WebCT server.
