IE 488/688 Human Factors Engineering
Rational
This course focuses on design of human machine systems which
takes into account both human and engineering capabilities and limitations.
Human characteristics include factors such as body size, ability
to see and hear, strength, memory and so forth. Such factors must
be considered in designing the human-machine interface. Attention
to human factors is important, for example, in
1) Workplace design including office environment.
2) Design of consumer products such as telephones, kitchen appliances,
seat belts,etc.
3) Design of computer interfaces that are easy to understand and
use.
4) Design of environments that are safe and comfortable, for example,
automobile and airplanes.
