Professor Bruce's principal research interests are in the areas of catalysis, kinetics, molecular sieve synthesis, and molecular modeling of catalyst surfaces.  Some particular areas of interest include the development of heterogeneous chiral catalysts that can be used in the production of pharmaceutical and agricultural products; preparation of molecular sieve materials using metal complexes or polymers as templates; development of inorganic membranes for molecular sensor applications.

Another area of interest includes the development of new materials and processes aimed at pollution abatement. This research involves the design of new catalyst supports to be used in automotive exhaust treatment and the development of advanced waste treatment processes, such as sonochemical oxidation and supercritical water oxidation.
