General Mathematics

• Life by the Numbers
• Short articles written for a general audience, covering math topics at an introductory level. Contents include:
  "Coping with Math Anxiety" - social and educational roots, some widespread myths about learning math, and possible strategies for overcoming math anxiety
  "Writing for a Math Class" - for teachers, a discussion of possible formats and assessment, with sample lessons; for students, tips on approaching a written assignment, with formatting samples (text and citations)

Mathematics Education

• Smile Program, Mathematics Index is a collection of almost 200 single concept lessons. These lessons may be freely copied and used in a classroom but they remain the copyright property of the author. The Mathematics lessons are divided into the following categories: Geometry and Measurement, Patterns and Logic, Probability and Statistics, Recreational and Creative Math, Practical and Applied Math, Arithmetic, Graphs and Visuals, Algebra and Trigonometry, and Miscellaneous.

• My First Garden This garden site deals with the planning of the garden, such as where it will be placed, what will be planted, and when planting will happen. Younger students will particularly enjoy "You Are the Ruler," an activity for using of parts of their bodies to measure the depth of plantings, or the distance between plantings. There is a Teacher's Guide also.

Standards

• The 2000 NCTM Principles and Standards for School Mathematics, an online version of the Standards (including illustrations, Java applets, and video clips); information about the Standards and the process used in their creation; information on the different formats available; previous standards; and related resources.
• Illuminations - NCTM: Illuminations are extended examples designed to help teachers think about how they might apply the ideas of NCTM's Principles and Standards for School Mathematics in their daily practice.
