Particle Scavenging

Levitated Drop Movie

Above is a high speed (1000 fps) movie of a levitated drop. The ultrasonic carrier frequency (~30kHz) is being modulated at about 100Hz, causing the drop to undergo shape mode oscillations. This movie was acquired by my undergraduate researcher, Brantley Mills.

Levitated Drop Movie

Above is a movie obtained of a larger drop showing larger oscillation amplitudes (Brantley Mills).

Levitated Drop Movie

Above is a movie obtained under the same conditions, but with different lighting conditions (Brantley Mills).

Leviated Drop Movie

Above is the first movie we obtained of a water drop levitated in an ultrasonic transducer. This was taken by my Ph.D. student, Jie Kou, with a commercial video camera (hand-held). The horizontal dimension of this images are about two inches. At the end of the movie, two drops can be seen levitated in the same ultrasonic standing wave field.
