Extra Credit Problem #2

DUE DATE: October 31, 2000 (in class)

Fermat's last theorem states that when n is an integer greater than 2, there is no solution to the equation xn +yn = zn, where x, y, and z are positive integers. The proof of Fermat's last theorem had remained an enigma for over 350 years until proven recently by Andrew Wiles.

Project: Watch a video tape of the documentary "The Proof" in which Andrew Wiles discusses his proof and write a short report (2-3 pages will suffice). The documentary was done by NOVA and was shown on PBS. It is accessible to the non-mathematician and is quite entertaining.
