Nicolas married Marguerite Tostevin (about 1668), but she died in 1674 after having two children, baptised 1669 and 1671. There are no further references to him in the church registers or the contracts -- for example, he is not named in a contract of 1730 which refers to only Jean and Leonard as being heirs of Michelle Langlois. It seems clear that this was the Nicolas who went to Maryland in 1675. The only other Nicolas -- his cousin Collas -- was still in Guernsey in 1676. He and his brother Jean are named in a contract as heirs of their mother, Marie Le Ray. He was still in Guernsey in 1691 at the burial of his second wife, Martha Mahy. In fact, he was buried there 1703/4. This conclusively defines which Nicolas (mine, not yours!) married Jane Aubes and Martha Mahy.
Enclosed is a dropline chart on which appear 4 brothers -- Jean b. cir 1635, Thomas b. 1642, Nicolas b. 1644, and Leonard b. 1646. Their parents were Collas b. cir 1615 and Michelle Langlois. They were married cir 1637.
David has told me that Collas is a short form of the name Nicolas.
I'm going to try to enter the entire chart into Brother's Keeper so that I can produce a report, or export a gedcom to LifeLines to generate some nice charts.
