Running the simulator for lab 5:
1. Enter the superscalar factor, renaming entries, reorder entries. Make
sure the trace file is compress.tra:

2. In the Execution tab, select "Standard" execution architecture, "Distributed" reservation architecture, and then enter the number of functional units and reservation stations:

3. In the memory/branching tab, select "L1,L2, and System" memory architecture, and the following values for the memory and branching parameters (these are defined in the lab handout). You can save these settings so you don't have to enter them each time by clicking on the "Save" button:

4. To save your setting, click "ok". Make sure the file name is "default_cfg.xml". The settings in this file are loaded in automatically.

5. Click "Apply" to start the simulations:

6. Click the simulate-to-end-of-trace button (the button highlighted in the picture below) to quickly finish the simulation:

7. The IPC is the final result shown in the window (where the arrow is pointing in the picture below):

For future runs, you should be able to skip over steps 3 and 4 above (if the settings were saved properly).
