  1. The Source for Java is http://java.sun.com/, and an alternative link is http://www.javasoft.com/.

  2. The latest version of the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition, can be obtained from http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/.

  3. For all reference documentation, surf to the Documentation Index at Sun's web site. We have a local online copy of the Java 2 SDK Standard Edition Documentation, and I have also set up a local online copy of the Java Tutorial which was last updated on May 31, 2000. This tutorial is quite extensive and you may find it to be very helpful.

  4. Gamelan is one of the premiere online Java communities. This has been a great source of free Java and JavaScript samples. It has recently been dramatically updated.

  5. HotWired's WebMonkey column is a good source for short tutorials on a lot of web related items including Java.

  6. As you become more experienced you might be interested in the Java Developer Connection. It's possible to sign up for their JDC Tech Tips email newsletter.

  7. Java's Home at IBM is http://www.ibm.com/java/. If you visit this site, you will see that IBM is supporting Java in a major way. This site includes the JCentral search engine for all things Java on the web.

  8. IBM also supports The Alpha Works which makes available early versions of many of their new Java developments.

  9. Java's Home at Apple is http://applejava.apple.com/ Apple has integrated Java into its latest operating system, MacOS 8.1.
